HMCS Margaree

John Hawley sent me this link about a ship.

He had this message to go with it.

The You Tube video (see link below) is a collection of photographs of the RCN (Royal Canadian Navy) St Laurent Class (nicknamed ‘Cadillacs’) HMCS Margaree *DDE/*DDH 230.

This class of ship served in the RCN from the mid 1950s to the late 1980s.

I served onboard HMCS Skeena DDH 207 from 1969 – 1972, HMCS Fraser DDH 233 in 1972 (*you will see several images of HMCS Fraser ‘233’ in moderate seas in several photographs in the later part of this slide show), and HMCS Assiniboine DDH 234 from Fall of 1972 until February 1976.

  1. fantastic video, as 27 year navy veteran who has sailed everything from diesel sub to aircraft carrier I can say there is no prettier ship underway. What a lovely vessel that screamed “Canadian Navy”

  2. Thank you for this post. My cousin is named John Hawley and I am going to show this to him. I have no ideal if these two John’s or related, but I know he will get a kick out of seeing this. Jim

  3. Also served on Skeena 70 – 72 as ABSG after transfer from Quappelle. My buddy was a sig on the Margaree. We always used to call it the Mar-gar-dit-dit. Nice tribute. Well done.
